Art was born in Portland Oregon and grew up in Lake Oswego. But really, he “grew up” when he joined the Marine Corps at 17 years of age. Art is married to Pam Furtney and they have lived in Jacksonville for over 30 years. When not working and the weather is suitable, Art likes to take his grandkids and friends fishing. He can also be spotted at the local USO grabbing SOS with friends.
Although Art has been in Real Estate for many years, he still likes to say, “I’m not IN Real Estate (yet), but I do sell quite a bit of Real Estate.” He received his Brokers License in December of 1978, but really did not start listing and selling until June of the following year – after retiring from the United States Marine Corps.
He first attended courses offered by the Realtor’s Institute, to get his GRI and then attended courses with the National Marketing Institute to become a Certified Residential Specialist (CRS). Other professional accreditations of Art’s are: Accredited Buyers Representative (ABR), Certified New Homes Sales (CSP) and Military Relocation Professional (MRP). Art says “It is a lot of training, but I owe it to my friends and clients.”
Art states, “My service philosophy is to exceed my clients’ expectations and that each transaction must be a win-win. My assistant Marissa, or Manager as I call her, is my right arm and leg in that endeavor!” Since retiring from the Marine Corps in 1979, and becoming a Realtor with Century 21 Champion Real Estate, Art has closed over 5,000 transactions and earned the Centurion Award every year since 1983. In 1992, at the International Convention, he was inducted into the Century 21 International Hall of Fame, where there are currently approximately 35 active members. Art attributes these accomplishments to his clients.
Art lives, eats and breathes Real Estate (unless it’s Sunday and Sunny – then he’ll be on the boat). He is a master negotiator, stays on top of the market, will tell it to you straight and always does what’s best for his clients. He will actually answer his phone when you call; or if he is with a client, he will return your call in a timely fashion. Art has a wealth of knowledge to share with you, weather you want to know about it or not! He wants to make sure you are informed, even about septic systems! He does not watch the clock (unless he has an appointment), rather he rolls up his sleeves and works until the job is done.
